# Apply Access Rights to Admins Importing Data

When importing into a Metric or List, the **Additional options** section of the import wizard includes a toggle for **Apply Access Rights to Admins importing data**. This controls how Access Rights are applied to Members who have the Define Application Security permission.

## How to find Apply Access Rights to Admins importing data

When in a Metric or List:

1. Select **Import data**from Block Settings or the top toolbar.
2. Fill in fields for importing up to Step 2 of the import wizard.
3. At the bottom of the right pane in Step 2 of the import wizard, click **Additional options**, scrolling down if necessary.
4. **Apply Access Rights to Admins importing data**is provided in the dropdown.

## What does the Apply Access Rights to Admins Importing data do?

> ℹ️ **Note**
>
> This setting only impacts imports that are run by Members with the Define Application Security permission. All other Members always have Access Rights applied to their imports.

Access Rights are applied by default when Members without Define Application Security permission import data. This means they can only import into Lists and Metrics for which they have [Write permission](/v1/docs/introduction-to-access-rights).

For example, if a Member tries to import into a Metric with the Country dimension, and they only have Write access for Ireland, they can only import into Ireland. They are not able to import into other countries.

However, if a Member has the [Define Application Security](/v1/docs/introduction-to-access-rights) permission, by default, no Access Rights are applied to their imports. This means they can import data into parts of a Metric or List, even if they do not have Write permissions. For example, if a Member with Define Application Security imports into a Metric with the Country dimension, and they only have Write access for Ireland, they are still able to import into all countries.

For new imports, **Apply Access Rights to Admins Importing Data** is turned on by default, ensuring Admins can only import data into List and Metrics where they have **Write**permission.

> [!WARNING]
> **⚠️****Important**
>
> - Importing with this setting toggled on might have a slight impact in performance because the Access Rights need to be checked before the import is completed.
> - This setting is not used in Scenarios, as Access Rights are always applied to all Members there.
