# Files in Pigment

Files let you store and manage documents directly within an Application. Depending on your permissions, you can upload, view, download, rename, and delete files.

This article explains how Members can work with files and send them to AI Chats.

## Before you begin

### Access and Permissions

- Workspace Admins and those with the [Manage files permission](/v1/docs/roles-permissions-access-rights#permissions) can upload and manage files. For more information, see [Manage Files in an Application](/v1/docs/manage-files-in-an-application).
- Members need the [Read files permission](/v1/docs/roles-permissions-access-rights#permissions) to view and download files and send them to AI Chats.

## Work with files

With **Read files** permission you can view and download files as follows:

1. In your Application, select **Files** in the left sidebar above your Application name.
2. In the panel that opens, you can view all the files uploaded to this Workspace, grouped by Application.
3. To download a file, hover over it, and select **Download** from the three-dot menu that appears.

With **Manage files** permission you can also:

- Upload files from here. Select **+ Upload new files** at the bottom of the panel.
- Perform the following additional tasks on files in step 3 of the above flow:
  - Rename
  - Delete

## Send files to AI Chats

1. In your Application, select **Files** in the left sidebar above your Application name.
2. In the panel that opens, hover over the file you want to send. Select **Add to AI chat**. Files must meet the attachment criteria for files attached to AI chats. For more information, see [Attach files to AI Chats](/v1/docs/upload-files-to-the-agents).

## File storage

The assets stored in Files contribute to your file storage. For more information, see [Manage File storage limits](/v1/docs/manage-file-storage-limits).
