# Pigment Connector for PowerPoint

The Pigment Connector for PowerPoint lets you bring live Pigment Views into your slides as charts or grids, and refresh them as your data changes. This article explains how to install, log in, add content, and manage updates.

The add-in allows you to:

- **Insert a Pigment chart**. Import any chart View from your Pigment Application into a slide and refresh it.
- **Insert a Pigment grid**. Import Table Views as read-only grids that mirror your Pigment formatting.
- **Keep slides up to date**. Refresh a single Item or all Items across the presentation.

You must log in to your Pigment account to use the add-in. Once connected, the charts or grids you insert must keep a reference to their source Application, Block, and View. These references are saved in the presentation and can be refreshed by any Member who opens the file and has the add-in installed with sufficient access.

## Technical considerations

The Pigment Connector for PowerPoint is a Microsoft Office add-in available for free on the [Microsoft AppSource Marketplace](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/WA200009687?tab=Overview).

Office add-ins are web-based and don’t require local installation on each computer. This enables cross-platform support and centralized deployment by company administrators.

**Supported PowerPoint versions**

Pigment Connector for PowerPoint is compatible with:

- PowerPoint 2019 or later on Mac
- PowerPoint on Mac (Microsoft 365)
- PowerPoint on Windows (Microsoft 365)
- Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 1801 ([build 9001.2171](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date))
- PowerPoint on the web

## How to Insert a Pigment chart

To add a chart View from Pigment to your slide:

1. In the sidebar, select **+ Insert Chart** or select **+ Add new**, then **Chart.**
2. Select an **Application**.
3. Select a **Block**.
4. Select a **View**.

> [!NOTE]
> ℹ️ Note
>
> If a View cannot be selected, the Block may be shared from another Application. The PowerPoint add-in only imports data from Blocks that belong to the selected Application, not from shared Blocks. Select another Block within the Application.

1. Select **Import View**.

### Supported formats for charts

Once inserted, your chart appears on your slide and is listed in the sidebar. You can:

- **Move and resize** the chart like any other PowerPoint object.
- **Maintain consistent formatting**, as colors, legends, axes, and labels follow your Pigment View.
- **Refresh the chart from the sidebar** to update it whenever the underlying data changes.

## How to insert a Pigment grid

To add a grid View to your slide:

1. In the sidebar, select **+ Insert Grid** then **+ Add new** and **Grid.**
2. Select an **Application**.
3. Select a **Block.**
4. Select a **View**.

> [!NOTE]
> ℹ️ Note
>
> If a View cannot be selected, the Block may be shared from another Application. Only Blocks that belong to the selected Application are supported.

1. Select **Import View**.

The grid appears on your slide and is listed in the sidebar.

### Supported formats for grids

When inserting grids, the add-in preserves the following Pigment View formatting:

- **Number formatting** including percentages, thousand separators, prefixes/suffixes, and decimals
- **Zero display**and sign management
- **Text styles**such as bold and italic
- **Cell styling**including fill color, text color, and borders
- **Indentation** for tree structures
- **Merged cells** for header structure

## How to refresh data

You can keep your slides current by refreshing Items:

- **Refresh a single Item**. Select the chart or grid on the slide, then select **Refresh** in the sidebar.
- **Refresh all**. From the overview in the sidebar, select **Refresh All** to update every item in the presentation.

## How to adjust selectors

If your Pigment View contains Pages, you can adjust selectors in the sidebar to control which data slice is shown on the slide (for example, change the Month or Entity). After updating a selector, select **Refresh** to apply the change.

> [!WARNING]
> ⚠️ Important
>
> Members with the Display Application Permission can insert and refresh Views. Access Rights still apply: users will only see and refresh data they have permission to read. Page options may be visible, but data won’t load for Items the user cannot access.

## Manage inserted Items

You can manage Items by selecting them on the slide or from the sidebar’s Items list.

From here, you can:

- **Edit source**. Change the Application, Block, or View used by the selected item.
- **Duplicate**. Create a copy of the item with the same source View (useful to show different Page selections across slides).
- **Reload View configuration**. Re-read the latest settings from the Pigment View (for example, new headers or formatting) and apply them to the item.
- **Remove**. Delete the item from the slide.

## Best practices for using the add-in

Below are best practices and troubleshooting tips for working with the Pigment Connector for PowerPoint Add-in.

- **Shared Blocks**. The add-in imports Views only from Blocks that belong to the selected Application. Views from Blocks shared via Libraries from other Applications are not supported
- **Read-only in PowerPoint**. Inserted charts and grids are rendered by the add-in; they are not native PowerPoint charts or Tables and cannot be edited directly in PowerPoint.
- **Keep a Table View**. Save a dedicated View in Pigment for use in slides. If the View structure changes (headers, layout), use **Reload View configuration** and then **Refresh** to update the slide.
- **Connectivity**. A network connection is required to sign in and refresh data. When exporting or presenting, refresh ahead of time to capture the latest values.

## Troubleshooting

- **The login window doesn’t open**. Ensure pop-ups are allowed and turn off ad blockers for PowerPoint, then try to log in again.
- **A View doesn’t appear or can’t be selected**. Verify the Block belongs to the selected Application and is not a shared Block. Confirm that you have access to it.
- **Data doesn’t load after changing Selectors**. Confirm you have access rights to the selected data slice and then select **Refresh**.
- **Formatting looks different**. Use **Reload View configuration** to reapply the View’s latest formatting.
