Pigment reporting charts let you visualize data to better understand trends, comparisons, and key drivers. In Pigment, you can switch a View to Chart Display Mode, choose from different chart types, and configure how your data is displayed with formatting options.

Access Chart display mode

To access Chart Display Mode:

  • Use the menu on the top left of a Metric or Table View to switch to Chart Display mode and see how the current configuration would look in different chart formats.

You can use the Pivot functionality to change where Dimensions are located on the different axes. Select Format to make adjustments and see options for each chart.

Access Chart options

To configure all visual aspects of the chart:

  1. Select Chart, then Format.

  2. The Chart Settings panel appears.

Pigment currently offers seven different chart types: Bar, Line, Pie, Combined, Waterfall, Map, and Org chart. You can toggle between the different chart options to view the formatting options available for each chart.

ℹ️ Note

Switch from series to X axis and Pages using the Pivot panel as you would do in grids. When you switch View to Chart mode, all Filters, Sort, and Totals configurations persist. Filters and Sort affect the Chart displayed, but Totals are not displayed.

Customize chart-specific settings

Bar chart

Bar charts are useful for showing comparisons between categories of data or comparing changes for multiple groups over the same period of time.

Layout

Configures how series are clustered visually on a chart.

Grouped: series are clustered side-by-side.

Stacked: series values are added on the Y axis, so each consecutive series appears above the last one. Make sure the units of all series match.

Bar direction

Configures the bar direction.

Vertical: bars of each series are displayed vertically.

Horizontal: bars of each series are displayed horizontally.

Bar margin

Controls the width of each individual bar.

Move the slider to the right to increase the thickness of the bars or left to reduce it.

Show  label

Shows/hides the label inside each bar displaying the value of the bar.

Toggle on/off

(on by default)

When bars become too thin to display within the chart they disappear unless Allow Label overlap is turned on.

Bar label position

Allows you to position the Bar chart label at the top of the  instead of the center in Grouped chart layouts.

Allow Label overlap

Shows/hides the label inside each bar displaying the value of the bar. This feature ensures labels are present even if the bars are too thin.

Show stack total

Displays the total of a bar stack at the top of the bar in Stacked chart layouts.

X label orientation

Configures the orientation of the X axis labels. Longer labels automatically have wrapped text. To avoid label overlap, use the diagonal or vertical option.

Horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Diagonal labels are not supported when multiple dimensions are displayed in the axis at the same time.

Color by Theme

Configures different presets of colors to represent each series.

Outside of your Workspace Color Palette, Pigment supports nine presets: Pigment, Rainbow Spectrum, Copenhagen Facades, Sunset Boulevard, Winter Wonderland, Utility, Moreno Glacier, Autumn in New York, and Summer Sky.

To use a Pigment theme:

  • Under Style, go to Color by and select Theme from the drop-down menu to access these presets.

To customize your Workspace palette or add additional colors for use in themes:

  • Select the Edit palette option in your list of presets then select your colors.

Color by Dimension Items

Applies the colors defined on each Dimension in the data model to represent each series.

To color your chart series by Dimension Items:

  • Under Style, go to Color by and select Dimension Items from the drop-down menu.

Customize colors

Allows you to select the individual colors for Items within a Series.

Select Edit chart colors to assign each Item its own individual color. Pigment remembers the order of your selection if you switch through different Color themes.

For example, if you assign an Item the first color in a palette, it remains the first color regardless of which theme you select.

Show X gridline and Show Y gridline

Enables the appearance of gridlines extending from the X  and Y axes.

Hide Y axis

Removes the Y axis from View.

Show legend

Shows/hides the legend of the chart series. Use this option to display or hide the legend.

Legend position

Configures the position of the legend.

The legend can be set to four different positions: Bottom right (default), Top right, Bottom center, Top center. It is scrollable for longer lists.

Line chart

Configures the type of line that is used.

Line: Displays line that runs through the data points

Line with dots: Displays line connecting dots on the data points

Dots: Displays dots on each data point with no line connecting

Line Shape

Configures the shape of the curve which connect or interpolate the series data points.

Linear: Displays straight line segments connecting points

Natural: Displays smooth curve connecting points

Basis: Displays smooth curve interpolating points

Line width

Configures the width of the line.

Slider from 0 to 10

(2 by default, use 0 to hide the curve)

Dashed Lines

Controls whether a line is solid or dashed when lines are enabled in the Display setting.

Y stacked values

Configures the position of each series. If the Y stacked values option is enabled, series values are added on the Y axis, so each consecutive series appears above the last with their value added to the previous number. Make sure the units of all series match to ensure the desired result

Area

Fills the area under each curve.

Toggle on/off

Area opacity

Controls how transparent or solid the area is under the lines.

Slider from 0.5 to 1

(.2 by default, 1 is a solid area)

Point labels

Toggles the appearance of value labels for each data point on a chart.

Shows/hides the label on each data point displaying the value of the point. This feature ensures labels are present even if the data points are too close together.

Inner Radius

Configures the radius for the "doughnut hole".

Slider 0 to 95

(50 by default. By setting this option to 0, the chart will be displayed as a pie chart instead of a doughnut)

Color Theme

Configures different preset of colors to represent each series.

Currently, Pigment supports eight presets: Pigment, Rainbow Spectrum, Copenhagen Facades, Sunset Boulevard, Winter Wonderland, Utility, Moreno Glacier, Autumn in New York.

Radius Label

Toggles the appearance of labels outside each slice displaying the series name.

Slices Label

Toggles the appearance of a label inside each slice displaying the value of the slice.

Corners

Configures the corner radius of each slice of the pie chart.

Slider 0 to 100

(0 by default)

Balance data

Adds an additional bar to represent any variation or contribution not fully explained by the displayed data. This ensures the total difference between start and finish values is accurately reflected.

Padding

Allows you to play with the spacing between bars.

From 0 to 0.9

Auto scaling

By default, Y axis starts at 0. If activated, the scale will be inferred from the underlying data.

Connecting lines

Allows you to add dashed lines between the bars.

Allows you to hide the bars with a value of 0.
