Trigger exports from a Board

Create a dedicated Board widget to export data. It is especially useful when your file size is too large to render in Pigment.

Before you begin

⚠️ Important

You need Can Configure Boards permission to set up a Trigger exports button. For more information on Board permission, see Use Board permissions to grant Board access.

Set up an Action button

To set up a Trigger exports button, take the following steps:

  1. In your Application, select the Board you would like the button to appear in from the Block Explorer in the left sidebar.

  2. Select Edit. If no Edit button is displayed, you may not have the necessary Permissions (see above).

  3. Select + Add a Widget, then select Action.

  4. In the dialog that opens, select Trigger export under Data Actions.

  5. In the dialog’s main pane, select Set up a Table export under Action settings.

  6. In Step 1, choose from the Tables, Metrics and Scenarios in your Application to define the source data to export.

  7. (Optional) In Add filters, select one or more conditions to keep the volume of data exported to what is necessary.

  8. (Optional) Configure filters for Members. You can let Members choose which Dimensions to filter their export by, reducing export file size. Members select from these drop-down menus after they select the Export button. To define what appears in the filters, take the following steps:

    1. Under Fields Members can filter on, select the drop-down menu to view all available Blocks. This menu depends on the selections you made in step 6 above and includes:

      1. Any Dimensions used in the Metrics you selected.

      2. Any Metrics you selected which have a Dimension data type. End users can select Items from the data’s Dimension but not the structuring Dimensions.

    2. Check the boxes by the Blocks you want Members to choose from.

  9. In Step 2, edit the format of your export, including:

    1. display of Blocks’ original ID

    2. field delimiter

    3. decimal separator

    4. file encoding

    5. header names

  10. Save your definitions.

  11. Back in the dialog’s main pane, format the Button itself that will appear on your Board.

  12. Select Add to Board when you have finished.

ℹ️ Note

Page selectors do not affect the content of your export. Selections made in page selectors are pre-selected in user-visible filters for your convenience.
