The Show Values As functionality can help you compare all the Items in a Metric to Items within the same Metric or within another Metric. This article shows you how to use Show Values As, how to work with variables in Show Value As, configuration options, and a few examples.
Access Show Values As
Show Values As can be used in Metrics alone or as part of a Table. It is important to note, these calculations cannot be referenced by other Metrics using formulas. To access Show Values As options, simply right-select a Metric in a Table. You can also select the drop-down arrow that appears on the right side of the Metric when you hover over it.
After you apply Show Values As to a Metric, you can click Edit Show Values As in the header menu to make any changes, or Remove Show Values As to remove it.

Manage Show Values As calculations
When you have Show Values As calculations in your Metrics and Tables, you can use the Calculations tab of the Pivot panel to view, edit and delete them:
Select Pivot in the top toolbar.
Select the Calculations tab beside Pivot.
(Optional) Edit or delete your Show Values As calculations.
You can also change the order in which Pigment makes Show Values As and Calculated Items calculations. For more information, see Reorder Calculations in Pigment.
For Tables, you can also reorder where your Show Values As calculations appear in the View relative to your other Metrics:
Select Pivot in the top toolbar.
The Configure Data panel opens in the Pivot tab.
(Optional) Drag and drop Metrics to rearrange their display order.
Types of calculation
Let's take a look at each calculation type with some examples. Notice that there is a No Calculation option at the top. This removes any Show Values As calculation that may have been applied to a Metric.
% of…
% of… calculates the percentage of each Item with the Metric value as the numerator and the denominator later defined. When defining the denominator, you are given a few options.
Grand Total. This calculates the total value of all Items within a Metric to determine the value of the denominator.
Previous Item & Next Item. You can also calculate the percentage of an Item as compared to other Items based on their position. Previous Item compares to the Item before and Next Item compares to Items after. You also have the option to choose which Dimension you want to compare and how much you want to offset by. The Dimension you choose must be present in either a Row or a Column.
Specific Item. This allows you to select an Item within the Metric to compare all other Items to.
Metric. You can compare to Items from another Metric appearing in the Table.
% of Parent totals
% of Parent totals allows you to take an Item's value and divide it by the value of the parent total. There are three different options when defining the % of Parent totals:
Parent total. This opens a configuration panel where you can choose the Dimension used in the denominator. Your options are Dimensions or grouped Dimensions that have been added to the pivot.
Parent column total. This chooses the Dimension or grouped Dimension that is located above the most granular Dimension in the column of the pivot.
Parent row total. This chooses the Dimension or grouped Dimension that is located above the most granular Dimension in the row of the pivot.
Here is an example Table called Percentage of. In this Table, Original Metric is the Metric we applied Show Values As to. Another Metric is the Metric we compared to.
All other Metrics were created by selecting Apply as new, effectively making a copy of the Metric so we can see the original before and after Show Values As is applied. The Item chosen for Specific Item was always Item 1. Totals were also added to help clarify.

Difference of…
Difference of… calculates the difference between an Item in a Metric and another number later defined through subtraction. When defining which number to subtract, you are given a few options.
Previous Item & Next item. You can calculate the difference between an Item and other Item based on their position. Previous Item compares to the Item before and Next Item compares to the Item after. You can choose which Dimension you want to use for comparison and how much you want to offset by. The Dimension you choose must be present in either a Row or a Column.
Specific Item. This allows you to select an Item within the Metric and find the difference between that Item and all others.
Metric. You can subtract the values from another Metric appearing in the Table.

Sum with…
Sum with… calculates the sum of an Item in a Metric and another number later defined. When defining which number to add, you are given a few options:
Previous Item & Next item. You can add an Item to other Items based upon their position. Previous Item uses the Item before and Next Item uses the Item after. You can choose which Dimension you want to compare and how much you want to offset by. The Dimension you choose must be present in either a Row or a Column.
Specific Item. This allows you to select an Item within the Metric and combine that Item and all others separately.
Metric. You can add the values from another Metric in the Table to figure out their combined total.
Differs from…
Use Differs from… to highlight differences between cells in a given data set. You have the following options:
Previous Item & Next item. You can verify the difference against other Items based on their position. Previous Item uses the Item before and Next Item uses the Item after. You can choose which Dimension you want to compare and how much you want to offset by. The Dimension you choose must be present in either a Row or a Column.
Specific Item. This allows you to select an Item within the Metric and verify difference between that Item and all others separately.
Metric. Use this to compare two similar Metrics together, for example, if you’re making changes to the structure or the formula. This is equivalent to using the Formula Playground in Comparison Mode, but it can be saved as a View.
When you select Apply, TRUE Booleans overlay the cells showing different data as defined above, and all remaining cells with no differences are BLANK. Note that the Metric’s data type remains the same.
% growth from…
% growth from… is a two-part equation. First, it takes the new number and subtracts it from the original number to see how much it has increased or decreased. It then takes that value and divides it by the original number.
For example, if an original value is 10 and the compared value is 30, % growth from… returns a 200% growth rate.
You are given the following options:
Previous Item & Next item. You can calculate the growth difference between an Item as compared to other Items based on their position. Previous Item compares to the item before and Next Item compares to the Item after. You can choose which Dimension you want to compare and how much you want to offset by. The Dimension you choose must be present in either a Row or a Column.
Specific Item. This allows you to select an Item within the Metric to compare to.
Metric. You can compare to values from another Metric in the Table.

Offset…
Offset… simply takes an Item’s value and moves it over the specified number of cells. With Offset, there are only two options: offset based on the previous Item or the next Item.

Cumulate
Cumulate allows you to keep a running total. It starts at your first Item and keeps adding the following Items. You can choose to reset values, meaning it restarts. To reset a Cumulate, you can use a Property of the List of type Dimension. Cumulate can work with previous values or next values. Cumulating previous values adds up values as you go, with the option of including the value of the current Item. Cumulating forward adds together all future values.

Once your calculation is set up, you can select:
Apply if you want to apply the calculation to the existing Metric.
Apply New if you want to create a new Metric with the calculation.
Cancel if you want to discard your edits. You can also reset to No Calculations to return to the original.
Use Variables with Show Values As
When working with Show Values As calculations that require referencing a Dimension Item, you also have the flexibility to reference a custom variable or Item Variable in the calculation. An Item Variable displays a specific value from the underlying Dimensions in your Metric. If you want to display one of your Metrics values as a percentage of a specific Month value, you can use a Month Variable for this purpose. This is especially useful if the Month value is updated regularly, as it ensures the calculation reflects the most current data. The values of an Item Variable can be set by an Admin for all Members, vary from one Member to another, or even be edited by Members themselves, depending on the type of Variable selected.

Combining cumulated calculations
For all type of calculations, you are able to apply the operation to a cumulated value of your Metric. To do so, activate the toggle Cumulate Value and set up the parameters that calculate your Cumulate:
Over Dimension. This defines the Dimension on which cumulation is made. It must be present in a Row or a Column.
Reset each. A Property of the Dimension chosen on which you would like to reset the cumulation. The List Property type must be set to Dimension.
Presets
Pigment has put in place some Show Values As presets for the most used computations. The presets you are able to load depend on the granularity of your Calendar as well as the time Dimensions in your pivot. It is not possible to choose an option that can’t be computed. They are shown in the Show Values As menu, below the various methods of computation, but you will also be able to load them directly from the configuration dialog by selecting Select Presets.
The list of presets available include: Last Year, Year over Year in value, Year over Year in %, Year to Date, Year to Go, Month over Month, Last Month, Quarter over Quarter, Last Quarter, Week over Week, Last Week.
Calculated Item, Show Values As or Formula?
Year to Date can be calculated in different ways in Pigment. When using Show Values As presets, such as Year to Date, it’s important to note that these calculations cannot be referenced by other Metrics. To have results you can reference, use a formula with the YEARTODATE function. If you want to get a quick Year to Date for a particular Item or up to a particular time period, use the Year to Date preset.
